Chargeback
A chargeback is a payment reversal initiated by a player through their bank or card issuer, returning the deposit and usually charging the operator a fee on top.
Gambling attracts them for two reasons: genuine card fraud, and players who lost and dispute the transaction afterwards. The second is friendly fraud, and it is harder to contest because the cardholder did authorise the payment.
Beyond the lost money, a high chargeback ratio threatens the payment relationship itself. Acquirers monitor it and can raise reserves or terminate the account, which is why KYC and deposit limits matter commercially and not just for compliance.
